Hyperion String Quartet
Looking for fresh educational approaches and
high-quality performance? The Hyperion String Quartet
brings the music basics to students in these accessible,
down-to-earth programs.
The
Hyperion Quartet is highly dedicated to music
education, and has performed community and
outreach concerts on behalf of the La Jolla Music
Society and San Diego State University as part of
their residency there. Along with their work for
New Performing Arts, they were Artists in
Residence for Young Audiences of Rochester which
gave them the opportunity to teach chamber music
to students of all ages. The Quartet has served as
adjunct faculty in the Community Division of the
Hartt School, as well as being mentors to the
Connecticut Youth Symphony. In June of 2008, they
will return as the Faculty String Quartet in
Residence at the 38th Montana Chamber Music
Workshop where they will teach and coach chamber
music. |
About
the program
Many teachers
tell us that they need to find an experience that really
introduces the string family of instruments and makes them --
and classical music -- accessible to students. The Hyperion
String Quartet has been involved in music education since its
inception at the Eastman School of Music in 1999, with programs
like “The Four Seasons” for primary and “The Musical Deli” for
intermediate students, each using everyday experiences as a
point of departure to teach the elements of music and how
composers use them. For older students, “Around the World” looks
at the cultural context of various classical composers and uses
this to teach about the evolution of the string quartet as well
as exploring ethnic music and a general history of classical
music. An excellent way to delve into the Core Content in music!
