2. Program Objectives

K-6
Basic elements of dance will be stressed in this 40 minute session. The use of Space, Time, and Force will be demonstrated by teaching the philosophy of modern dance (drawn from every-day movement rather than formal/stylized ballet). Students will see how locomotor and non-locomotor movements can be combined with the 3 Elements of Dance and the use of emotion to create choreography, and will have opportunities to participate with the artists in creating a dance, learning the differences between beat/rhythm, and experiencing tap, jazz, and modern performance. At the end of the performance, a verbal review of content done.

7-12
This program builds upon the elements of dance and introduction of locomotor / non-locomotor movement of Program I. It will broaden students’ capacity to compare and contrast dance styles. It will also provide students a more informed knowledge base for dance review. At the end of the performance, a verbal review of content done.
